I am not a professional musician (working in the
Institute for Condensed Matter Physics )
but music plays very important role in my life. This is not
due to the amount of time I spend for it, but also due to efforts
to treat this activity quite seriously, and not only as a hobby.
There are some facts concerning my musical education and activity:
- 1970-77 Studied violin and general music education in
secondary music school
- 1980-85 Played violin in the Student chamber orchestra of
Lviv University
- 1982-83 Private study of modern oboe
- 1983-88 Soloist on recorder in the Student chamber
orchestra of Lviv University
- 1986-88 Private study on Boehm flute
- 1991-93 Played recorder in Lviv ensemble 'Excelsior'
- 1993- Initiate and perform in
"Leopolita" - Lviv early music group.
Also took part in the projects of other Ukrainian early
music groups "Green Sleeves", "Artis
Liberalis",
"Aulos" and
"Silva Rerum", member of Lviv Wagner society
When I was a schoolboy my father had a hard time with me to let me study
violin. I was interested in planets, radio, electronics and in rock
music... But everything has changed rapidly in the University where I
was accepted (at first time without my great enthusiasm) to the amateur
student chamber orchestra. Being a young emotional person, I fall in
love to Vivaldi, Handel, Marcello. After this I began to study other
instruments, starting from Ukrainian recorder (sopilka), and then
oboe, Boehm flute, and finally recorder. I played together with our
orchestra concerts of A.Marcello and A.Vivaldi on oboe and recorder
on several concerts (this was in 1983-88). After listening more of new
records and communicating with more people I fully forget classical
vibrato and my Boehm flute. Trying to play authentically I have had
a hard time listening good performance and trying to imitate trills,
sforzato and other stylistic techniques. The important thing I
recognized at those times is not to imitate, but to start performance
from my own emotional conditions and try to understand Baroque time
better. The lack of education and good guide was often compensated by
much work and the fantasy.
My primary interest lies in historic performing of Baroque period
music. This particularly includes sonata/partita/concerto for the
recorder as one of the solo instruments, as well as recorder duets
and music for recorder and chamber orchestra. I'm
interested in literature devoted to problems of Baroque music
interpretation, including differences between performing early
and late Baroque music and between the music originated from
different countries at that time.
Fortunately I have many friends and we have a nice time playing
together Baroque music. I know that this love is forever for us.
